Don Valley Wrestling

Don Valley Wrestling is an initiative that was developed to increase the interest and availability of the sport of amateur wrestling in the schools of the northern Don Valley area of Toronto. The main objectives of this initiative are to retain the existing wrestling program and to expand the interest of the sport of wrestling to the students in the area.

The method used for this objective is to invite the high schools that are in relatively close proximity to George S. Henry Academy to send students and supervisory staff to the wrestling practices of George S. Henry Academy. In this case, each student represents their own school during tournaments but join in on the wrestling practices at George S. Henry Academy as a composite team. The composite team format assures that there will be a reasonable number of participants while also creating programs in other schools.

Another method employed is to conduct wrestling sessions in the physical education programs of each school on a rotational basis during the post season.

The success of this attempt is limited since most schools have a difficult time finding teachers who are able to find extra time to help supervise.
However, we have had some success in the past with George Vanier having a wrestling team for two seasons and other schools receiving wrestling in physical education classes.
